About the convention

This time we travel to the United States Mid-Atlantic region for our convention. The Mid-Atlantic region is rich in history, vibrant in arts, and full of amazing opportunities to explore a part of the United States where much American history was, and is still being made. There is so much to see and experience here; our hopes are that most if not all our NCS members will come to the 2016 convention. If possible, find extra days before or after the convention to allow for time to visit the Smithsonian Museums, American monuments like the Lincoln Memorial, beautiful parks, the National Cathedral, the National Zoo, George Washington's home (Mount Vernon), the "Changing of the Guard" at the US National Cemetery, and many other historical places. There will also be Deco Japan 1920-1945 exhibit in the DC area at the Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens, 4155 Linnean Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008 during the convention (June 11 to December 31, 2016). For impressions of this exhibit by Tim and Janet Trapani, see their article on this website.

The convention will be the Embassy Suites, Alexandria - Old Town, 1900 Diagonal Road, Alexandria, VA. 22314 The hotel is directly across the street from the Metro's King Street Old Town Station that connects to important Washington DC sites and other surrounding locations. Old Town Alexandria itself is a delightful and vital place of colonial era homes, churches, shops, restaurants, and the Torpedo Factory Art Center at the waterfront end of King Street. There is a free King Street Trolley that can be boarded near our hotel. Come and enjoy!

The closest airport to the hotel is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, which is located approximately five miles north of Alexandria along the Potomac River across from Washington D.C. There is a DC Metro train station at this airport which you can take to the King Street Old Town Station, which is across the street from the Embassy Suites hotel.

This promises to be one of our best conventions ever and it will be even better if YOU are there!

Registration forms for the Convention will be mailed to all current members in spring 2016. Remember, convention attendance and participation in the auction is limited to members only, so join today!
